Do you often feel like there is not enough hours in the day? I know I do 🙂 There is a stack of paper on your desk, rush to finish that report, hurry to pick up the kids, and quickly whip something up for dinner. Then you help with homework or drive your child to hockey or even open up your laptop to catch up on unfinished work. You go to bed way to late and wake up exhausted and then do it all over again! There is no wonder you are burnt out!
A lack of energy can stem from a number of causes, and each of us have our own unique issues to combat. However it is possible to achieve a more energetic and vibrant YOU!
In our busy world the most common energy suckers are lack of sleep, stress, and poor nutrition. But by far the biggest energy zapper is your diet, once that is corrected, sleep improves and stress diminishes.
When we are tired we often crave sugary foods to provide a quick bust of energy. That works in the short term but then robs our body of vitamins and minerals. So you get a sugar rush followed by a sugar crash only a few hours later. Stimulants like sugar, white flour and caffeine are not necessary if your nutrition is in check. Eating a balanced diet with protein, whole grains and veggies at every meal will help keep your energy levels steady throughout the day.
Sleeping is your bodies way of rebooting and re-energizing. When we sleep you repair damaged tissue, detoxify the liver and clear waste from the day. You also recharge your adrenal glands which are small but very powerful organs that sit on top of your kidneys. They are responsible for producing stress hormones and even creating anti-inflammatory compounds. Best time to recharge these little glands are between 10pm-2am. Each hour you push your bedtime back takes away from your bodies natural ability to regenerate itself.
Dear Stress, let’s break up! Find ways to reduce the amount of stress in your life. Mental stress wreaks havoc on the body, shutting down the immune system and impairing digestion. Here are some tips – plan your time wisely, get enough sleep, balance work and home life and spend time with quality people. Move your body try exercising, yoga or go for a walk. Meditation will also help to diffuse stress.
