My passion for health and fitness developed at a young age. I played pretty much every sport imaginable, I have educated myself and done the work to develop good practices based on science, my own intuition and a deep love and compassion for myself. I believe that in order to help others I must practice on myself first the things I talk about and tell others. Growing up, I had a LOT of questions about what it meant to be healthy.
I used to think it was the size of my clothes, or my weight on my scale that determined my self-worth. I would step on the scale every morning and that would pretty much determine the kind of day I was going to have. It would hinder me from wearing certain things, going out and even eating certain foods because I wasn’t happy with my body. We all suffer from body image in one way or another. It’s unfortunate but it’s the truth. Our society, the way we were brought up and the experiences we face, lead to us to having poor body image. I developed an unhealthy relationship with food by restricting foods that I felt would make me “fat” (carbs, dairy, sugar, etc.) but in actuality all food groups play an important role in our overall health, provided we are making the right choices. The less I focused on checking myself and restricting my food intake; the more balanced I felt in my body, mind and life. I became more confident, socializing was fun again and my overall happiness was so much better. I studied, I learned, and I conquered – and I’m here to share the ride and help you do the same thing! This site can be one of the tools in your tool box for strategies on how to live a fit and healthy lifestyle, tips, delicious recipes, workouts and support as you make lasting changes to your attitude, your body, and your life!
Choosing “Total Shift”
Total Shift speaks to the idea that we need to “shift” our perspective on how we live our life by constantly evolving and growing as individuals. Some of the things we are doing now may not be working for us, so we need to dig deep to figure out what is and isn’t working. Once we do that we can make the appropriate shift(s) in our lives and take the action necessary to better our lifestyle. Total Shift is a total lifestyle over haul, in mind, body and life. My goal is to be a total rockstar in the kitchen, have a healthy body and live a life of integrity and purpose. To me, every time I said the name, it felt right because we need to evolve into the best version of ourselves, striving to grow, transform, evolve, thrive and ROCK our life. We can all make the Shift!
I love Fitness…
I love working out. It grounds me. Physical activity has always been a big part of my life. I was a sprinter and did hurdles for years. I grew up doing gymnastics, karate, basketball, volleyball, I even played rugby and the only reason I lived through it was because I could run fast. I was a bikini fitness competitor and model. I was showcased in magazines and the newspaper. I love weight training, body weight exercises, circuit training, explosive cardio, crossfit and Zumba. I will pretty much try anything because I love being active! You will learn a lot about your body through my programs and watching my workout videos.
I am SUPER passionate about cooking…
I learned to cook at a very young age; it’s something that I was always interested in. You could always find me helping my mom out in the kitchen. I am also fortunate enough to have a few chef friends and am always picking up some great skills, tips and tricks from them!
However, the more I learned about food and nutrition, the more confused I got about how to eat! There seemed to be an insane amount of mixed messages about diet, food and how the body works. I am all about prepping out my food for the week and I find that this is where most people fall short. The way I balance flavour with the daily demands on my time is batching my cooking in one main session, usually Sunday’s. I choose a few staple recipes, and spend a few hours shopping, cooking and setting it all up in my fridge so I can grab and go throughout the week. This also helps to create more time for me for my son. Rather then being stuck in the kitchen cooking and we always have healthy food to eat. I also get him cooking with me, making his lunch and baking (he loves it) I find that he is more excited to eat and try new things; and it’s also great quality time. Check out my food prep service for more information where I cover the key concepts that I have learned, studied, and applied to have the greatest impact on creating healthy sustainable habits in my life.
I LOVE to Travel…
I’m a traveler at heart I love to experience and explore different cultures, countries and cities. I have traveled quite extensively but one of my favourite trips was backpacking Europe for 3 months on my own. I went to Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany, Amsterdam and Ireland. It was one of the most rewarding trips of my life! I had never really traveled on my own, let alone for 3 months and to countries where English was not the dominate language. My vision for my son and I is to travel to a new country every summer and immerse ourselves in the culture, food and history.
